Looking for a DStv Branch in Kempton Park? What a Counter Can and Cannot Fix

If you have typed "DStv branches in Kempton Park" into your phone, you are in very good company. It is one of the most common DStv searches in this town, and it usually happens on a bad morning: the decoder is showing an error, the rugby starts at three, and the plan is to drive somewhere, hand the thing over a counter and have a person sort it out.

Before you spend the petrol, two things are worth knowing. The first is where MultiChoice's own counters actually are. The second is how many of the jobs people drive to a counter for do not need a counter at all — a fair number of them clear from your couch in under fifteen minutes.

One thing up front, because it matters more than anything else on this page: we are an independent DStv installation business working in Kempton Park. We are not MultiChoice, we are not a DStv branch, agency or walk-in service centre, and we have no counter for you to visit. This page exists to point you at the right place, which is sometimes us and quite often not.

Where DStv's Own Service Centres Actually Are

MultiChoice lists its walk-in centres on the DStv Contact Us page, under a heading it calls "Our Service Centres". At the time of writing it lists five in the whole country: Randburg, Polokwane, Durban Central, Umhlanga and Cape Town. The only Gauteng entry is Randburg, given as "Corner Oak Avenue and Grove Street, Ferndale, Randburg", with the note that the call centre "is available seven days a week, including public holidays, from 08:00 – 22:00". The Polokwane entry is flagged "Permanently Closed for face to face service".

Kempton Park is not on that list, and neither is any other East Rand town. That is worth saying plainly, because a great many local searches — including the ones that name Festival Mall — start from the assumption that there is a MultiChoice counter somewhere in town.

Independent DStv dealers, retailers and accredited installers trade all over the East Rand, and some of them sit inside shopping centres. But a dealer is not a MultiChoice service centre, and the two can do different things. We could not verify an address, a telephone number or trading hours for a MultiChoice service centre in Kempton Park from MultiChoice's own website, so we are not going to print any here. Anyone who does print those details without a source is guessing, and a wasted trip on a Saturday is a real cost. Check the Contact Us page yourself before you drive.

The Jobs That Need Nobody At All

This is the part that saves the morning. A large share of the faults that send people looking for a branch are account problems, not equipment problems, and DStv has built them to be cleared without a human being.

E16, E17 and E19: your account, not your dish

These three look alarming on a large screen and have nothing to do with the dish on your roof. On its own error-code pages, DStv says E16 "can occur if your services have been suspended" and that "It might also mean that the channel you're trying to access is not included in your current package". E17 indicates "the channel you are attempting to view is blocked due to the absence of an active subscription on your account". E19 happens "usually because the decoder has been inactive for a while or there's a suspension of services on your account".

All three pages carry a "Fix Error Online" button and the same warning: "Important: Your error code may take up to 15 minutes to clear." That last line is the one most people miss. They press the button, nothing happens in thirty seconds, and they assume it failed and start looking for a branch. Give it the quarter of an hour.

The self-service channels, in the order most people find useful

From DStv's own Contact Us page:

  • WhatsApp. DStv's instruction is "Save our number 060 060 3788. All you have to do to get started is to type “Hello”."
  • USSD. "Dial *120*68584# on your cellphone" — DStv says you can "Check what you owe, clear errors, view transactions and reconnect packages", and notes that you should "Use the number registered on our system".
  • Live chat on the website. DStv says "This service is available Monday to Sunday, from 07:00 to 23:00."
  • The MyDStv app, which DStv notes is "for SA only" and requires registration.
  • The call centre on (011) 289 2222, described as available "seven days a week, including public holidays, from 08:00 – 22:00. Please note standard rates apply."

Between the USSD string and WhatsApp, a suspended account, a payment query and a reconnection are all sortable from a kitchen table. None of them is an installation problem, and none of them is something we could help with even if you called us — we have no access to your DStv account, and neither does any other independent installer.

A decoder that has lost its settings

If a decoder has been unplugged for a long stretch, moved between houses, or reset, it may simply need to run its installation wizard again before it will find the signal it was happily receiving last month. This is a menu exercise, not a roof exercise.

The Jobs No Counter Can Do For You

The flip side is that a counter, wherever it is, cannot climb onto your roof. Anything involving the dish, the cable or a second television is a site visit by definition.

The clearest example is E48. DStv describes it like this: "This error indicates that your decoder isn't receiving an adequate signal from the satellite dish. Possible reasons include damaged cables, loose connections, an improperly aligned dish, or severe weather conditions." Its suggested first step is worth trying — check the weather, check that the cables are properly connected, then "switch off the decoder at the wall plug and wait for at least 10 seconds before turning it back on". If the picture does not come back after that, the fault is outside the house and somebody has to go and look at it.

The same goes for extra rooms. DStv's accredited installation page states that a standard voucher installation "excludes costs for work such as connecting the decoder to more than 1 TV or linking it to other decoders", and warns there "may be added costs for additional travel, cabling or amplification required". Those are installer jobs, priced per property, and no amount of queuing will change that.

If you have worked through the self-service options and the problem is plainly on the roof or in the cable, our fault-finding page sets out what a visit looks like, and you can send us the details or reach us from the Kempton Park DStv installation home page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a DStv branch in Kempton Park?

MultiChoice's own Contact Us page lists five walk-in service centres in South Africa — Randburg, Polokwane, Durban Central, Umhlanga and Cape Town — and Kempton Park is not among them. The nearest listed Gauteng centre is Randburg. Independent dealers and accredited installers do work across the East Rand, but they are not MultiChoice counters. Check DStv's Contact Us page before travelling, because that is the only source that is kept current.

Can you sort out my DStv account or clear my error code?

No. We are an independent installation business with no access to anyone's DStv account. Account balances, suspensions, reconnections and the errors tied to them go through DStv's own self-service channels — WhatsApp on 060 060 3788, the USSD string *120*68584#, the MyDStv app, live chat, or the call centre on (011) 289 2222. We help with the dish, the cabling and the equipment in the house.

How do I know whether my problem needs an installer or a phone call?

Read the error code on the screen first. Codes about subscriptions, packages and scrambled services are account matters and clear online, usually within fifteen minutes. E48 — which DStv describes as the decoder not receiving an adequate signal from the dish — points at cabling, connections, alignment or weather, and that is when it is worth calling someone out. If the code has cleared but the picture has not, the same rule applies.
