Who decides where the dish goes
In an estate or a townhouse complex, the trustees or the managing agent usually have a view on satellite dishes — whether one may be seen from the street, which elevation it may go on, sometimes a required colour or size. Ask them before you book us, and get the answer in writing. It takes one email and it is the difference between an installation that stands and one that has to come down again.
Pass the ruling on to us and we will design the job around it. If the only elevation you are allowed to use turns out to have no usable view of the satellite, that is something to discover with a meter on the first visit rather than after the holes are in the wall.
Compact stands and shared walls
Units built close together create their own obstruction problem: what stands between your dish and the sky is often the roof of the unit beside or behind you. You cannot tell which wall works by looking, so the meter goes up at each realistic spot in turn and the position with the healthiest margin wins — not whichever one the ladder reaches first.
A shared or party wall is not a wall to drill through casually. Where a cable has to cross one, we look for an existing service route, a soffit, an eaves gap or a route round the outside instead, and where a fixing must go into a boundary structure we will say so up front so you can clear it with your neighbour rather than discover it afterwards.
A neat job in a new house
Runs here are usually short, which takes away the usual excuse for an untidy one. Cable gets clipped along its whole length, sleeved wherever it is out in the open, and the entry hole is angled and sealed so weather has no path along the cable into the wall. Where a line already exists to follow — a downpipe, a gutter, a wall capping — we follow it, so the run disappears into the elevation instead of drawing the eye.
If the unit has a second bedroom, a study or a small flatlet that will eventually want a screen, say so while we are there. Pulling a spare cable on the day costs very little; coming back to a finished and painted house to do it costs a great deal more.
