DStv Extra View & Extra TV Points in Glen Marais
Glen Marais sits about 2.3 km from the centre of Kempton Park. The request we hear most often from this suburb is not for a first dish but for a second screen — someone wants the sport in the lounge and something else in the bedroom, or a TV in a home office, a garden flat or a teenager's room, without a second subscription.
What Extra View actually needs
Extra View links an additional decoder to your existing DStv account so two TVs can be on different channels at the same time. The part people underestimate is that each decoder needs its own cable coming back to the dish. A splitter shared between two decoders weakens the signal to both, and the result is a picture that looks fine on a clear evening and falls apart on a wet one.
The other requirement is at the dish itself. A single-output LNB can only feed one decoder, so a second point usually means fitting a twin or multi-output LNB. Swapping the LNB is quick and far cheaper than replacing the dish, and it is a sensible moment to check the alignment and reseal the outdoor connectors while the ladder is already up.
Getting the cable to the second room
The route matters more than the distance. Through a roof space is usually the neatest option; along an outside wall is fine when it is clipped tight and sleeved where it is exposed; across an open yard is the one we plan carefully, because that is the run that gets cut by a spade or pulled loose by a gate.
Where the second TV is in a separate flatlet or garden room, we talk through whether Extra View or a completely separate decoder and account suits you better. That depends on who lives there and how the place is used, and it is worth two minutes of conversation rather than a guess.
Tested on both screens
We finish an Extra View job with both TVs on at once, on different channels, and check the signal quality at each point rather than at one and assuming the other is the same. If one point reads noticeably weaker, that is the moment to find out why — not three months later.
Linking the decoders on your account is done through MultiChoice, and we will tell you exactly what to ask them for so the call is short. The cabling, the LNB and the setup are our side of it, and that is the side that determines whether the picture holds up.
